EFFE® Water Treatment

EFFE® water treatment compared with conventional technologies

  • Is verified with ETV (EU Environmental technology Verification) granted 12/2019 for EFFE® GX treatment of Airport runoff and perched water. [Read more]
  • Has lower maintenance costs.
  • Does not need kilometres of new pipelines, large, constructed reservoirs or basins, hundreds of heated sprinklers, or other special equipment for installation.
  • Does not need pre- or post-treatment

Compared with conventional water treatment technologies, EFFE® competes with small size, compact design, and easy modifiability.

EFFE ® Water Treatment Plant is ideally applicable for

  • Military and civil airports
  • Mines and quarries
  • Landfill leachate
  • Environmental accidents and firefighting areas
  • Specific hazardous water issues
  • Stormwater

The fully automated and remote-controlled EFFE® water treatment plant consists of bioreactors, aerators, filtering and clarifying units, and systems for backflushing, sludge retention, and air treatment.

The EFFE® plant automatically scales the process to respond to the changes in water quantity and quality.

EFFE® GX Removes Gaseous Substances

The EFFE® GX system eliminates effectively odorous gases and gaseous substances in water such as radon, carbon dioxide, methane, arsenic, and hydrogen sulphide. It is well-suited to treat perched ground water or runoff water containing glycol, making it an ideal solution for airports.

The EFFE® GX system has bioreactors with different carrier types to ensure best biofilm growth. Part of water impurities turn from soluble to insoluble ones in the process and settle. Precipitated sludge from the biofilm is then pumped further into a tank. The water settling phase is followed by filtration whereafter clean water is released into a discharge outlet.

EFFE® ME-X for Dissolved Metals in Waters

EFFE® ME-X is a multi-treatment method for waters mainly in mines and quarry areas, as well as in iron, steel, or metal industries. The system is tailored to serve unique customer needs and to comply with the requirements of environmental permits.

The system is available for different types of water in an extremely flexible manner, and it is self-scalable for different water quantities. The treatment process reduces e.g. dissolved heavy metal contents in water to a desired level. Both the energy consumption and operational costs of the EFFE® ME-X system are low. Treated water can be used as process water or discharged into a water body. The EFFE® ME-X plant is always designed in accordance with the given environmental requirements and based on an on-site pilot test.

EFFE® RA-V for Nutrient-Rich Waters

EFFE® RA-V is a multi-treatment method for nutrient-rich waters, runoff waters, for peat and fertilizer industry, as well as for leachate and reject waters. The system features aerobic treatment in bioreactors, microbubble aeration (gas stripping), settling, and excipient additions for precipitation tailored for the water in question. EFFE® RA-V method is a technical and cost-effective way of achieving significantly improved results in water treatment when compared with currently used methods.

EFFE® RA-V reduces the content of solids, odours of hydrogen sulphide, contaminants dissolved in water, sulphate, heavy metals, gases, and nutrients to a designated level. In the EFFE® RA-V water treatment, the structure of water is broken, and oxygen is dissolved into water, nutrients are partly changed in form, and simultaneously gaseous substances are released. During the process, the degree of natural, biological decomposition is increased. The treatment and removal of solids are enhanced by coagulants and other excipients best suited for the plant in question.

SPEF® Water Treatment – a Biological Option for Stagnant Waters

The problem of stagnant waters is the absence of oxygen which gives rise to algae growth, makes water turbid and generate foul odour.  SPEF® equipment is designed to dissolve oxygen into water to aid bacteria in the decomposition process.

The function of the SPEF® equipment is based on biological processes, known as bioremediation. The bacteria, protozoa, algae, and flora naturally found in basin water decompose detrimental chemicals or transform harmful substances into another form. Oxygen promotes microbe growth and SPEF® provides it with favourable conditions so that the capability of microbes to decompose harmful substances is improved.

Water treatment by SPEF® requires no considerable investment and it is easy to use. Energy consumption of the equipment is very low in comparison with its efficiency. The use of SPEF® does not interfere with other functions in the area which can thus proceed normally. Late winter is the ideal time to start SPEF® treatment and if needed, the equipment can also be used in the northern conditions.

SPEF® treatment is carried out with a floating system onto which water is pumped from a desired depth. An efficient ejector nozzle breaks the composition of water and airborne oxygen is dissolved into water. A circular movement is created in the basin which enhances the process even further and drives the forming floccule towards the edges of the basin. The operational time of the equipment can be sequenced to follow water amounts, a certain date, or a certain temperature. There are various SPEF® models available for different drainage basin sizes of less than 10,000 m² up to 30,000 m².

SPEF® Water Treatment

  • Is based on natural, biological processes.
  • Highly efficient oxygen dissolution into water.
  • Adjustable oxidation time and depth for specific site needs.
  • Significant reduction of the environmental load compared with chemical-based basin water treatment.
  • Reduces foul odour.
  • Applicable to most sites without modification.
  • Operates on mains power, easy to install and use.
  • Designed for seasonal or year-round use.

SPEF® for Nutrient-Rich and Oxygen-Poor Waters

SPEF® water treatment breaks water impurities, algae, and flora mechanically into small particles, aerates water and removes gaseous substances. When oxygen level rises in water, it boosts natural, biological decomposition. SPEF® creates a circular movement in the sedimentary basin so that floc is driven towards the basin edges where it sinks to the bottom. Floc is then removed mechanically from there from time to time. Precipitation and nutrient recovery can be enhanced by the use excipients best suited for the needs of the site.

In addition to industrial usage, SPEF® is suited for treating runoff waters from forest and agricultural areas, or for nutrient recovery.

The use of the SPEF® equipment can be sequenced in accordance with time of the day, or changes in water quality and amount. The silent device sound does not disturb any activities around.

EFFE® Water Treatment

  • Perched water and polluted runoff water

  • Runoff waters containing dissolved heavy metals and nutrients
